Ten years in a cage. Four years on the run. And an unknown number of years left. Max is the oldest of six recombinant-DNA avian-human hybrid experiments that make up a flock of young runaways. She is their leader, their mother figure, and the savior of the planet. Created and raised to serve as a tool, Max spent the first decade of her life in a lab facility called the School that performed cruel and inhumane experiments on children and animals alike. Most died within months. Some lived up to seven years. Others were unlucky enough to last even longer. A man by the name of Jeb rescued the flock and hid them in the mountains of Colorado for two years before disappearing. Max kept them safe for another two until the baby of the flock, Angel, was kidnapped by a pack of Erasers, lupine-human hybrids that served as guards and punishers for the School. After retrieving their littlest member the flock was made to set out on a long and tiring journey to bring down the destructive forces of Itex and prevent the world-wide genocide the Director intended to inflict upon mankind. Hunted, homeless, starved, lost, and without family, Max led the others across the nation and to several other countries while being guided by the Voice in her head, driven by the love for her band of mutants and a precarious grasp on her freedom.
